Peace Day 2025

We honored Peace Day this year with a special Interfaith Gathering on Saturday morning September 20, 2025.  Leading the service were clergy and lay members of the Interfaith Alliance of Maui, representing Jewish, Christian, Bahai, Hawai’ian, Vietnamese Buddhist, and Jodo Shinshu Buddhist traditions.

The Gathering was followed by activities such as an outdoor mindfulness labyrinth walk in the refreshing shade of our big trees.  In the Social Hall we enjoyed peace-related crafts and onolicious pupu platters generously donated by Pukalani Superette.

Zenshin Daiko sent members of their taiko drum group for a rousing performance in the Social Hall to add to the festivities.

On Monday morning September 22, 2025, we joined the Ring Your Bells for Peace Day event hosted by Honpa Hongwanji of Hawaii with participants connected by Zoom from around the world. Makawao rang bells and gongs for 5 minutes as our part in the celebration. Jake Shimabukuro, Hawaii’s Ambassador of Peace, graced us with a special ukulele performance to close the program.
